My Blind Christmas Mouse…
Twas the night before Christmas (well almost) when all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse…except for in my wilderness house , I’ve been trapping them for days. The boundaries set between myself and the rodent world is pretty good when I’m home, but when I leave for any length of time, the message of my absence goes out as fast as rumors spread out here and it’s mouse city. It takes a while for them to get the deadly message…but my raven neighbors arrive every morning to check in for their hopeful breakfast of trapped mouse, so the food chain continues.
I was sitting on the floor creating my Mother’s Christmas present when I caught a slight movement out of the corner of my eye. I slowly turned my head, which is key to spotting wildlife, it’s such a human habit of quickly turning at these little nuances and then startling the animal nearing us. A little deer mouse was heading right to me, zigzagging all over the place like it was lost and then it just kinda sat down. I’ve never stalked a mouse before to touch it, but I wanted this little guy out, so I grabbed my gopro, strapped it to my head and here’s what happened next…
